A moderate hike in the Annapurna region for those who want a taste of trekking without the high altitude. While relatively easy by Nepal standards, this trek still packs a punch, with some steep climbs and awesome views, including the famed Himalayan panorama from atop Poon Hill.
Early November, along with late October, are the most popular times to trek in Nepal. Temperatures get cooler in November, but the skies get clearer and the chance of rain or snow interrupting your trek gets lower.

I had no idea what a level 3 trek was. Well now i consider it a "kick-your-butt" for out of shape computer nerds like me. I would recommend Poon Hill for first time trekking like Crystal and I as it provided the flexibility for us to finish the trek in style without exceeding our physical capability. Now we understand the Annapurna region beauty and challenges. Poon Hill was sort of a test for us, to see if we could someday do the high altitude EBC. We learned many things about trekking and the Annapurna region (up grade and steep downs). The trail was in great shape mostly paved with stones the entire way. The most amazing pleasure was the Nepali people. We will return to Nepal, mostly to return to the people and positive energy of the Himalayas. When we return, the plan is to redo Poon Hill to acclimate and then on to EBC. A test to prove we can physically do it (getting older is the pits).

Paths were really well tended and safe. The tea houses along the way were all really accommodating, clean and just great. Really lovely, a beautiful trek with a lot of variety in the landscapes. We were lucky enough to have a spectacularly clear morning at the summit but it is luck of the draw as the day before was clouded in. Well worth it. Trekked through forests and river valleys, lots of stone steps which made up most of the trek. These made it a lot easier to climb the steep hillsides and provided a great challenge each day. On average allow about $25-$30 per person per day, for food, accommodation, snacks... more if you want any alcohol along the way. 3rd week of Feb the weather was pretty much perfect for trekking, not too hot or cold, only half a day of rain and no snowfall although there were some patches of older snow that you had to get through. The Rhododendron weren't yet in bloom but magnificent trees to walk amongst.

We enjoyed beautiful scenery and trails . The Poon Hill trek is moderate difficulty for anyone in reasonable health . The accomodations are rustic but the food is good. A good guide can help you with your meal choices and translation difficulties. The trail also gives lots of opportunities to meet people both Nepalese and from around the world.

Great trek, highly recommend. Even during monsoon season, we were fortunate enough to see the two big mountain ranges that everyone wants to see. Highly recommend this trek, even if you only have a few days.

Poon Hill is a great short trek (6 days) with stunning views and moderate difficulty. It is very touristy though with some villages completely booked up with accomodation (in November).
