A great option for those with less time, the Langtang valley trek allows trekkers to get high into the Himalayas without having to climb a high pass. Although the region was devastated by the 2015 earthquake when Langtang village was completely destroyed by a massive avalanche, the region is recovering and trekking routes are open in this spectacular valley.
Early November, along with late October, are the most popular times to trek in Nepal. Temperatures get cooler in November, but the skies get clearer and the chance of rain or snow interrupting your trek gets lower. At high altitudes, trekkers are rewarded with good views throughout the day.

Langtang Valley Itinerary Reviews
Langtang Valley Upper Langtang Day Hike led by Mingma Nuru Sherpa
The Langtang Valley trek was a great trip for our timeline and skill level! We are infrequent hikers and slower than some of the timing estimates on Sherpana, but we never ran out of time to get from one location to a planned overnight stop. Overall, the hike was not too difficult, the distance and elevations were manageable, there were plenty of teahouses and lodges to stop for tea and delicious food, and the scenery was all very beautiful and peaceful. Going at the end of November/early December was after the busy season, so the trail and the lodges were not very crowded. The weather was clear and sunny almost every day except one day of cloudy skies and passing snow. It did get cold at Kyangjin Gompa, but we were prepared with extra layers and gear for warmth. The mountain views after Lama Hotel were breathtaking and there were many opportunities for taking great pictures of the Himalayas.

We found the Langtang Valley a great mix of environments to trek through; roaring rivers, lush green forests and awe inspiring mountains. This valley had it all! We took it a bit slower than some of the groups we saw which worked well for us. It would be a tough trek to rush through but very achievable if you take your time. Our 11 and 13 year old kids kept up easily and loved that every day brought something new as we climbed up into the upper valley.

Amazing people and incredible landscape.

Beautiful trip. Saw a troop of Langur monkies near Lama Hotel. Mountains were beautiful. Prepare for possible digestion issues if you have not been in this area of Asia before. If you have not done backpacking recently, get in shape, it will be much more enjoyable. Consider packing light or using a porter unless you backpack frequently and have a good sense of your capabilities.

For those who have not trekked in himalaya before this is a very difficult and challenging trail

Fantastic journey, incredible scenery, I wish I would have taken a couple of days longer to do it, and appreciate it more fully. Including the trek from Kiangjin Gompa to Tserko Ri at 4984m (instead of Kiangjin Ri) made the whole trek one of the highlights of a lifetime (no pun intended!).

Increadible trek. Not crowded. Perfect blend of culture and mountain scenery. Very safe. Challenging but doesnt require high level of fitness or extensive hiking experience.

Langtang Valley Upper Langtang Day Hike led by Mingma Nuru Sherpa
We are slower hikers/trekkers than the timings suggested on Sherpana, so our guide Mingma suggested that we spend only a few hours walking the flat areas of the upper valley in the morning, and then hike up Kyangjin Ri in the afternoon. This ended up a much better plan rather than to hike up the Ri in the morning before traveling from Kyangjin down to Lama Hotel for the evening. Sherpana's estimate was 1-2 hours up the Ri and 1 hour down -- we needed 2.5-3 hours up and 1.5 hours down. The upper Langtang Valley provided some opportunities for beautiful photos of the mountains and kharkas , but not as good of views from up on the high point of Kyangjin Ri. We got to watch sunset while descending from the 4770m summit, and this was the high point of our whole trip. The extra day is definitely worth it, and a second extra day would have been even better!

Well worth the detour. Can see some amazing peaks. Very few people and a great sense of the scale of the place.

For us the highlight of the trip was the upper Langtang area.

Langtang Valley via Gosainkunda and Upper Langtang Day Hike led by Ang Tsering Sherpa
There were some pretty tough days getting back up to the higher altitudes after descending back down Langtang but this section of the walk seemed much quieter than the main Langtang route. There were a lot more Nepalese trekkers here going up to the lakes for religious ceremonies which was nice to witness. The lakes are spectacular and worth trying to allocate a couple of days to stay there rather than rushing back down.
