The Around Manaslu trek is often likened to how the Annapurna circuit used to be. The lodges are rustic, crowds are fewer, and the scenery is wild and rugged. Like the nearby Annapurna circuit, this trek covers a diverse array of landscapes starting in the green, lower hills and climbing past lakes and picturesque villages to the rock and ice covered Larke La (5106 m). From Samagaon there are spectacular side trips to Punggen Gompa an isolated monastery at the foot of Manaslu and Manaslu Basecamp.

We loved this circuit! It’s nice and challenging and great to see the scenery and vegetation change throughout. The first few days are long but get shorter as you get higher up.

Tremendously interesting hike. Huge swings in flora and vistas along the way. Nice and challenging during the middle days. Though snowfall prevented the day trip to Manaslu base camp, we were so happy to have been able to share the mountains with the Nepali people for a short time. Thank you to Sherpana for the uniquely useful service they provide.

Around Manaslu via Manaslu Base Camp led by Ang Rita Sherpa

The around Manaslu trek is a breathtaking, rewarding and stunning trek. It is a strenuous hike but with stunning views and a lesser traveled trek you are left in a gorgeous and peaceful environment. I would highly recommend this trek to anyone travelling to Nepal and sooner then later. As is the case throughout the world there is development being made in the area and a road is being built to reach to secluded villages further along the trek. At this time only one day at the start of the trek is spent on this road but even there is no traffic other then the odd vehicle taking part in the road construction itself. The end of the trek, depending on travel distance will leave you with some days hiking out on a road that is quite busy and is also the beginning of the Annapurna trek. The gorgeous views are still present but the atmosphere is far less peaceful. I would highly recommend this trek and sooner then later while it is still very secluded.

Around Manaslu led by Nawang Chimi Sherpa

We found the Manaslu Circuit to be a wonderful trek. While it is rated as challenging there are only a couple of days that would justify that rating. We saw part of the Annapurna at the end of our trek and thought the Manaslu to be far superior mainly due to the number of trekkers on the Annapurna and being far less remote.

Around Manaslu led by Lhakpa Gyaljen Sherpa

A very rugged trek with some beautiful and varying terrain. Manaslu presents an authentic trekking experience comparable with doing the Annapurna circuit in 2001. We trekked in early December and the trail was fairly quiet. We had good weather with some snow up at the pass. It was very cold - more so than we expected! The people are very friendly with the quality of guesthouses varying according to the size of the town - but with everything you need.It definitely gets more costly as you go up the mountain, especially water costs - even if you are buying boiled water. You probably should budget on slightly more than $25 per person per day if you want extras and not to have to worry about whether you have enough cash on you. The day going over Larke Pass is a long one - Dharamshala before the pass was worse than basic and the price of boiled water was 3 times the price at the last stop - we could not help but feel ripped off! We did not sleep there, opting to go from Samdo in one very long day - if you are physically fit enough, we would say this is definitely the better option and all trekkers we spoke to were motivated to get over the pass to Bhimtang and avoid having to go back to Dharamshala! Overall it is a highly recommended option and we had a fabulous trek.

The day we went to the Monastery (rather than Base Camp) was a day of celebration. We met the Monks who had come to pray and it was a very surreal experience surrounded by the snow covered high peaks whilst listening to the incantations. Beautiful spot.

If possible I would recommend a day trip to Manaslu base camp. It is not only a great way to acclimatize as it follows the climb high sleep low rule but is also amazing to see where a push for the summit of Manaslu all begins. Although the peaks are intimidating from the teahouse villages, seeing the peak from base camp really puts into perspective how massive the mountains truly are.
