This classic trekking region is undergoing rapid change as new roads push further into the mountains. In addition to increasing development in the region, these roads mean that more people are opting for shorter treks along these famed trails rather than undertake the traditional 3 to 4 week Annapurna Circuit. The roads have not changed the jaw-dropping vistas, however, and it remains the most popular region in Nepal to trek. The region is incredibly diverse, stretching from the lush green of the middle hills over the Thorung La, to the arid beauty of the Mustang region in the rain shadow of the Himalaya. It contains both short easily accessible treks like Poon Hill as well as more remote and demanding treks like Nar Phu, Tilicho Lake, and over the Thorung La.
